Protecteer announces a breakthrough in online identity theft protection

Windham, NH -- March 4, 2004 -- Protecteer LLC is announcing SignupShield 2.0, a software product that helps stop online identity theft.

"Online identity theft manifests itself in many ways” says Ami Grynberg, Protecteer’s CEO. "Irresponsible or rogue sites can steal your user name, your password and your email address not to mention credit card information” adds Ami.

The need to guard one’s password is clearly understood by everyone. However, most users keep using the same password to sign-up to multiple sites. They do so because they know they should not write it down and they cannot memorize different passwords for different sites. A similar, albeit less critical issue is with emails. But clearly, guarding one’s email address as confidential information is not a practical solution.

Protecteer is introducing SignupShield 2.0 which aims to solve two of the security issues facing Web surfers:

-          Email theft and Spam

SignupShield is an add-on suite of tools for Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Internet Explorer. With Signupshield 2.0 users can now safely and conveniently sign-up to Web sites, not fearing the consequences.

SignupShield’s ‘form filler’ then fills up sign-up forms, saves and tracks usage or change of passwords. When a user needs to provide sign-in credentials to a site, Signupshield does it automatically”.

In addition, with its patent pending, disposable email technology, Protecteer was able to provide a solution to the problem of email theft and Spam. SignupShield 2.0 creates a disposable (but real) email address that it automatically writes to a sign-up form. With each site now in possession of a different email address, users can easily block any misbehaving sources of emails. Shielding is 100%, no false positives.
